Pedometers are one of the most common gadgets around. There are many varieties currently on the market, including pedometer features included on ipods, mp3 players, cellphones, and pda’s. Here is something you may not know about the pedometer.
Did you know that the pedometer was brought to the United States by, and some insist was invented by, Thomas Jefferson. European models appear to have been in existence before, but the earliest ones in America were introduced by Thomas Jefferson and it appears he got them in France, although he may have modified it on his own as well.
Most people would not believe that the pedometer was really that old, in fact it could be older as the Roman army used a pedometer like gadget to measure steps that soldiers marched in a day. This unit was quite different than anything we use today, but the principle was the same.
