Anti-Virus Concerns Extend Past Just Your Computer

Anyone who has purchased a new or even a refurbished computer recently knows of the dangers a computer virus can threaten their computer with. It is one of the primary concerns: Is the computer already infected? Does the computer come with the proper anti-virus protection software so it will not become infected? Once these questions are answered, the bulk of the stress involved in making the purchase is gone. But, are there other items we need to be just as vigilant about?

There have been an alarming number of reports recently showing that seemingly unsuspecting gadgets could also carry a computer virus. These items are usually of much less value so they aren’t thought of as a concern as much, but when hooked up to interface with a computer, the virus could be introduced inadvertently to someone’s computer or network.

Two things need to happen regarding this issue. Number one, people need to learn how different peripherals interact and can affect their computer. If someone knew there was a possibility that a car part could be installed and then ruin their car, they wouldn’t go through with the installation until it was checked out. When someone buys any device that interacts with their computer, they need to have an awareness at the same level regarding what that device could do to their computer if it was infected with a computer virus. The second thing is that manufacturers need to start screening their products that interface with computers for computer viruses. Unfortunately this second need could raise a manufacturer’s cost so it will probably not come about soon. People should tackle the first need first and protect themselves instead of depending on some of these businesses to do the right thing on their own.
